Tile of Spain educates students at Harvard Graduate School of Design

Oct 25, 2012

Last week Tile of Spain had the opportunity to sponsor a lecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Over 50 students and staff were in attendance. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and see samples of Spanish Tile.

Ryan Fasan, consultant for Tile of Spain, spoke about the marriage of architecture and ceramics, and trend of customization we are seeing in the marketplace.

Architect Ángela García de Paredes, Principal at Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos in Madrid, Spain, shared with the students three of her recent projects, including the Tile of Spain Award winning project Kid University in Gandia, Spain.

After the presentations, Dr. Martin Bechthold, co-director of the Harvard University Master in Design Studies Program and director of the GSD’s Technology Platform, led the group in a panel discussion. Carlos Garcia from Ceramica Elias was also on hand to answer any questions students had regarding the production of tile.

Since 2007, Tile of Spain and ASCER, the Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturer’s Association, have collaborated with the GSD on conferences, workshops and two large research projects which analyze the industry in terms of customization – adaption to any client or request – and sustainability of ceramic.  Learn more about the program aquí.
