Trans-Hitos 2020 amplía la identidad de la cerámica

25 de febrero de 2020

I·den·ti·ty /ˌīˈden(t)ədē/ (noun) – the distinguishing character or personality of an individual, community, or object.

The Trans-Hitos Exhibition of Ceramics for Architecture celebrated its 15th anniversary at CEVISAMA, the International Fair for Ceramic Tiles and Bathroom Furnishings, in a series of three impressive projects entitled “IDENTITY”.

“IDENTITY” reflects on the use of ceramic tile as a material for global use in architecture since the XVIII century. Ceramic tile serves as a link both culturally and technologically, accomplishing a relevant role as a functional and aesthetic material which has left a legacy in the history of art and architecture grandiose works that still to this day are reference points for the whole world.

Sponsored by the Spanish Ceramic Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER) and coordinated by the Habitat Area of the Instituto de Tecnología Cerámica (ITC), this year’s annual Trans-Hitos offered visitors a unique insight on ceramics in a series of three impressive projects and an ode to this year’s Tile of Spain Award Winners.

SPACE 1: POP

Dedicated to the CEVISAMA winning project, the first space introduces “POP” the work of Architect Belén Ilarri who analyzed the possibility of creating an ambient effect based on the use of simple earthware tile applied to a life-size cube structure. Guests were invited to walk through the cube where they could view  the tile arrangement from a 360° perspective.

SPACE 2: CERAMIC PROTOTYLE: HYPAR TOWER

Developed by researchers from the Material Processes and Systems Group at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Ceramic Prototype: Hypar Tower explores the structural capabilities of slender ceramic extrusions – a product commonly utilized for exterior claddings, rain screen or sun shading elements. The team used a computational approach to generate the geometry of the structure, discretize the form into individual components, and accommodate assembly tolerances.

SPACE 3: MEETING POINT

The ITC puts forward a meeting point in which ceramics display their multiple facets in an urban context. The space is made up of ceramic modules suspended from a metal structure to provide shelter from the sun while concurrently contributing sustainable ambient lighting that collects solar energy through photovoltaic plates.

18th Edition of the Tile of Spain Awards

In addition to the three collaborative projects, Tran-Hitos offers CEVISAMA visitors a virtual prism where they could view the Tile of Spain Award winning Architecture, Interior Design and Final Degree projects. Organized and promoted by ASCER this display offers viewers a detailed look at the integration of innovative technologies in ceramics while simultaneously highlighting the intense activity of the Spanish ceramic industry.
