The Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers Association (ASCER) has announced the prestigious group of architects, designers and editors chosen to serve on the jury for the 24th annual Tile of Spain Awards.
This year’s jury will be led by Julio Touza Rodriguez, founder of Touza Arquitectos. Accompanying him is a panel of esteemed professionals from the fields of architecture and design, including Martín Lejárrága, director of Martín Lejárrága Oficina de Arquitectura, Carmen Baselga, creative director of Carmen Baselga Studio, Antonio Jesús Luna, editor and co-founder of ROOM Diseño Magazine, and Susana Babiloni, president of the Castellón Architects’ Association.
About the Jury
Julio Touza Rodriguez
With over five decades of experience in architecture and urban planning, Julio Touza Rodriguez founded Touza Arquitectos in 1974. He has since led more than 2,700 projects in Spain and internationally, in countries such as Morocco, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Germany and Abu Dhabi. His work spans across a variety of sectors, from residential buildings, office complexes and corporate headquarters to commercial spaces, sports facilities and hotels. Holding a PhD in Architecture and a Master’s in Urban Planning, Touza teaches design, construction and industrialization and is a regular speaker at international conferences.
Martín Lejárraga
As the architect and director of his own studio in Cartagena, Martín Lejárrága works on a diverse range of projects, varying in scale and function, for public and private clients. With a vested interest in ceramics for its cultural, expressive and sensory qualities, Lejárrága’s studio has integrated the material into several works, including Casa C in La Manga and Edificio Tívoli in Cartagena. Both projects have received recognition for their use of ceramics in contemporary architecture, exploring its potential as a medium for dialogue between the environment, light and Mediterranean building traditions.
Carmen Baselga
Carmen Baselga is the creative director of Carmen Baselga Studio, where she leads various projects in interior architecture and design. Her portfolio spans from ephemeral spaces – such as exhibitions, trade show stands and stage design – to residential, office, retail, hospitality and outdoor urban environments. Baselga has developed projects in both Spain and aboard, combining creativity, functionality and sensitivity to the cultural and social aspects of each commission. In addition to her design practice, Baselga actively promotes design culture by curating events and seminars focused on architecture, design and gastronomy and teaching in the Master’s program at CEU Cardenal Herrera University in Valencia.
Antonio Jesús Luna
Born in Córdoba and formally trained as a philologist, Antonio Jesús Luna has built a career rooted in language and publishing. He entered the design industry in 2003 as the editor-in-chief of REM Magazine, and later co-founded ROOM Diseño, a print and digital publication dedicated to exploring the intersections of architecture, design and contemporary creation. Today, Luna continues to serve as co-editor of ROOM Diseño and is a passionate advocate of unconventional design, embracing eccentric and unorthodox design approaches.
Susana Babiloni
Susana Babiloni, president of Castellón Architects’ Association (CTAC), is an architect trained at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). Babiloni earned a Master’s in Marketing and Market Research from Universitat Jaume I (UJI), and a diploma in Graphic Design from Escola d’Art I Superior de Disseny de Castelló (EASD). Sine 2012, Babiloni has led her own design studio, specializing in building design and property valuation. She has contributed on Castellón’s new General Urban Plan (PGOU) and advises several municipalities on urban planning and real estate assessment. Additionally, Babiloni teaches technical training at universities and professional institutions, with a focus on real estate valuation and georeferencing.
