We all know what a tile backsplash is. It’s quintessential, functional design. To Andie Day, however, a backsplash is an opportunity to create a lasting artistic impression, a one-of-a-kind digital print, and display a technology that is just starting to reach its full capability.
Interior designer Andie Day (owner of prominent Boston interior design firm, Andie Day, LLC) discovered this emerging trend when she travelled to Spain for Cevisama, Spain’s international ceramic trade fair held annually in gorgeous Valencia. While there she wandered through the booths and found a variety of Tile of Spain branded manufacturers displaying their ability to use digital printing technology to meld realistic images and photographic art with ceramic and porcelain tile. “While every year we see some terrific new tile products, processes and possibilities, 2011 was especially exciting,” said Day of the show.
After returning home, Day worked with Ceracasa to turn a vintage magazine image into the perfect custom backsplash for her office kitchenette. The company’s ability to produce a small run of printed material for a reasonable price resulted in an eye-catching focal point that projects Day’s personality, her company logo and her flare for color and boldness.
What We Say: Tile of Spain branded manufacturers are reaching new heights with digital printing and graphic material. Whether it be small scale accent pieces such as Andie Day’s backsplash, or sweeping custom floors and wall murals, it will be amazing to see how this technology progresses.
